A return to Tarkir, a dramatic space opera, and a Final Fantasy expansion lead next year’s stacked release schedule.
The Magic: The Gathering 2025 release calendar is here, and we’ve got another stacked year of cardboard to look forward to. It’s actually a big year in a lot of other little ways as well because we’re getting both MSRP back with Magic: Foundations‘ release (which should be a very good thing), and also that Universes Beyond will be Standard-legal as of 2025 as well. Rotations are also changing as of 2027 to be calendar year-based instead of triggering with the autumn Standard release, but that’s for another time.
Magic: The Gathering 2025 Release Calendar
This is everything that’s been announced so far, but expect regular updates as soon as we get them on any other sets that appear, Secret Lairs, and whatever else MTG decides to throw at us.
Innistrad Remastered (INR) – January 24, 2025
Market Price: $309.99
Market Price: $169.51
Market Price: $64.99
It’s time to get down with some dancing skeletons and vampires once again with our next remaster set. It’ll be interesting to see how this stacks up against the previous Double Feature set, which was a little naff if we’re being honest. As long as this pulls from every potential Innistrad set though, this could be a great chance to pick up some of your favorite undead cards in MTG. Or maybe Edgar Markov, which is in Innistrad Remastered.
Aetherdrift (DFT) – February 14, 2025
Aetherdrift is going to be a racing set, and one that takes across three different planes. Think Mario Kart but Jace might be there, and you’re along the right lines. It also means more Vehicles which is going to be great, and that there will be teams based on different color combinations. Plus, the prize for the race is an Aether Spark, which is quite the prize indeed.
This set will see Daretti as a Rocketeer Engineer, but also a new Gearhulk with Brightglass Gearhulk which is two colors and can find cards from your deck with a mana value of one or less, and a Vehicle that can be crewed by exiling things from your graveyard called Earthrumbler.
Tarkir: Dragonstorm (TDM) – April 11, 2025
We have a soft spot for Tarkir because there weren’t Dragons, and now there are. This new Standard set is fusing the two former sets and we’ll have both Dragons and clans fighting all amongst each other, and it also means three-color play again, which we’re excited about. Hopefully, we’ll get a new Siege Rhino just for old-times sake.
Final Fantasy (FIN) – June 13, 2025
This set will be composed of things from every numbered Final Fantasy up to and including XVI, which is just a lot of stuff. We’re expecting a few of the minor characters from each game to end up missing, but it should mean that no matter which is your favorite one, you’ll have a few of the heroes and villains at your disposal. We know Terra, Noctis, Lightning, Kefka, Tidus, Yuna, and Cloud will all be present for certain, along with some summons, weapons, and monsters too. We’re very excited about all of this.
Edge of Eternities (EOE) – August 1, 2025
We’re going to the only place not corrupted by capitalism, SPA-YACE! If you don’t get that joke, please educate yourself on Tim Curry. Anyway, this set is all about merging space and fantasy, which will have Tezzeret as an antagonist in a major way. It’ll be interesting to see if this is space as a plane, or somehow linked to the Blind Eternities as well, you know, given the name.
Magic: The Gathering | Marvel’s Spider-Man (SPM) – TBA 2025
He not only does whatever a spider can but also swinging into MTG. Not a lot of information on this one, but we’re expecting a few iterations of Spider-Man along with a lot of classic villains. The irony of Spider-Man is that he’s always been almost second fiddle to some of the great antagonists that haunt him, but hey, we could also see some more Avengers here as well.
Unannounced Universes Beyond (UUB) – TBA 2025
Yeah, this is just mean as far as announcements go. It is the end of the Magic: The Gathering 2025 release calendar though, so it’s something to look forward to.
Secret Lair x SpongeBob SquarePants (SLD) – TBA 2025
Look, we don’t know what to tell you, but we are now hoping that Cloud Strife and SpongeBob SquarePants both have Partner so we can have them heading up a Commander deck together.
And if you’re after a visualization of what is to come for Magic: The Gathering in 2025, we’ve got you covered.
