Innistrad Remastered is Bringing a Fabulous Sorin, Movie Poster Hermit Druid, and More

The spoiler season is beginning in earnest once again, and we’re pretty excited about some of these cards coming back.

Welcome back to the preview cycle Magic: The Gathering fans, because while we’ve had a couple of weeks off, we’re likely going to be back in it now until the end of the year. While we are looking forward to seeing what the likes of Aetherdrift and beyond offer, right now, it’s all about Halloween. Well, not Halloween, but Innistrad Remastered – they’re very similar in our defense.

Innistrad Remastered is already shaping up to be a pretty exciting reprint set with the best take on a retro-bordered Planeswalker yet, not to mention a few really essential reprints like Edgar Markov, too. Well, January 7th saw a new slew of cards revealed, along with some cool new art styles as well, and it’s only helping to cement this as a very cool set.

Sorin Has a Big Fan

Sorin, Imperious Bloodlord

Innistrad Remastered, Mythic

Sorin, Imperious Bloodlord - Innistrad Remastered - magic

Let’s quickly chat about some of the cool art we’re getting (along with the cards with that artwork on them). First up is the return of Sorin, Imperious Bloodlord, a three-mana black planeswalker that can grant deathtouch and lifelink, deal damage to things, and put vampire cards directly into play. It’s a cool card, if a little niche most of the time, but the artwork is absolutely stunning. Sorin is flanked by two statues crying blood and looks like he’s just stepped out of a photoshoot.

Thalia, Heretic Cathar

Innistrad Remastered, Rare

Thalia, Heretic Cathar - Innistrad Remastered - magic

The excellent Thalia, Heretic Cathar, a three-mana white 3/2 with first strike that has enemy creatures and nonbasic lands tap as they enter, also got the same treatment here. It’s very glam and feels a bit like it’s channeling the over-the-top styles of an 80’s hair metal band. That’s not the only borderless style we’re getting, though.

The Gitrog Monster

Innistrad Remastered, Mythic

We’re also getting Movie Poster cards too. The Gitrog Monster looks fantastic lurking with its head just above the surface and the black and green frog horror always sees play anyway thanks to its suite of land-based abilities in Commander, but the mighty two-mana creature Hermit Druid is also a great reprint as it can help you mill your own deck as you please for just one green mana.

Can’t Stop The Classics

Avacyn, Angel of Hope (Showcase)

Market Price: $99.92

Through the Breach (Showcase)

Market Price: n/a

Hermit Druid (Showcase)

Market Price: n/a

We’re getting a bunch of excellent cards by the looks of things. Through the Breach lets you put a creature card into play for just five-mana and is a key part of a few decks. There’s both Gisela, the Broken Blade and Bruna, the Fading Light who can form up like the world’s grossest Voltron to become an enormous game-winning angelic horror show.

Then there are great cards like Haunted Dead and Rise from the Tides, which are sure to make Commander players who love zombies very happy too. For anyone who was playing during any of the Innistrad sets, this is sure to be a wonderful way to draft your nostalgia and see if you can still make cards like Thing in the Ice and Thermo-Alchemist work as they’re intended.

There are also just a bunch of lower rarity staples here like Faithless Looting, Abrade, and even Delver of Secrets as well. It’s an impressive spread, and we’re still incredibly early on in the spoiler season, so we’re expecting big things from the rest of the spoilers we’ll see this week.
